TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The confirmation process continues Tuesday, for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ controversial appointee to be Florida’s surgeon general. Dr. Joseph Ladapo, who’s been serving in the role since September, will face senators once again for his second confirmation hearing.

What You Need To Know

There has already been some fireworks in the previous hearing before the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee. During that initial step in the confirmation process, senators stormed out of the meeting, claiming Ladapo was not answering their questions.

One of those questions: Do vaccines work?

“Eh, you know eh yes or no questions are not that easy to find in science,” was Ladapo’s reply.

But in reality, Democrats have no way of stopping his confirmation. The Senate Ethics and Elections Committee is made up of five Republicans to four Democrats.

All parties can, however, learn more about his background. That includes a past memo from his employer at UCLA, where a supervisor wrote he cannot recommend Ladapo because he deals in opinions rather than facts.

Tuesday’s hearing is set for 12:30 p.m.
