NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he is encouraged by where things stand when it comes to negotiations surrounding a new Bills stadium.
While speaking with the media outside Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, Goodell said experts say, and studies show, Highmark Stadium is reaching its life expectancy. He says the current home of the Bills could be used for maybe five more years, but that timetable doesn't concern the commissioner.
"I'm more interested in making sure we balance everything fairly, and we put ourselves in the best position of really giving the fans what they deserve in Western New York, which is a stadium that is new and serves the purposes of that community for several decades," Goodell said.
Goodell says he’s been impressed with how Gov. Kathy Hochul has brought together the Bills, the state Erie County and the NFL to tackle this major project.
"We have to get a new stadium in Buffalo,” Goodell said. “The governor has recognized that. It's gonna have to be a public private partnership. All parties are gonna have to work together. That means the state, the county, the team and the NFL."
