Mary Lee’s House is a center for child protection and advocacy, a cause near and dear to Deputy Bieber’s heart.
About 2,500 abused and neglected children seek their services each year for trauma counseling, advocacy and legal help, along with medical forensics.
But the goal, according to people who work there, is to help kids heal while creating a fun environment.
For example, during tough days, kids get to pay a visit to the toy closet.
“They are always so excited. They say, ‘How did these toys get here? Who gave them to you? How do you get to give them to me?’ So that’s the moments that I get to say, ‘The community comes together to bring all these amazing toys and they want you to pick out whichever one you want.’ So it’s a huge impact,” said Reagan Hering with Mary Lee’s House.
