TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was assisted by several drivers while taking a battery suspect into custody, according to arrest reports.

The incident, caught on video that you can watch below, happened Friday morning when the trooper approached Alexander Hernandez Delgado, 24, who was walking along I-4 just west of exit 5.

The trooper, according to the report, said he informed Delgado that he couldn't walk in that area. Delgado agreed to be searched, but when the trooper tried to place him in his patrol vehicle, Delgado became "argumentative" and threw a punch at the trooper's face.

In an arrest report, the trooper said he was trying to get Delgado off the interstate for his safety.

Delgado tried to run away, but the trooper caught up. Delgado continued to throw punches, the release said, until several civilians stopped to help.

The trooper suffered a bloody nose but was otherwise OK. Delgado, who ended up with a cut on his chin, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
