12:05 p.m. update: The westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway have been reopened after the double-fatal crash closed the roadway early Wednesday.

11:25 a.m. update: Clearwater Police posted on Twitter that eastbound lanes have reopened. The crash itself remains under investigation.

TAMPA, Fla. — Two men have been killed and a man and woman are hospitalized after an early-morning crash on the Tampa side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

According to Tampa Police, the two-vehicle crash happened at 3:42 a.m. Witnesses reported that a vehicle flipped over and multiple people were ejected from the vehicle.

Tampa Police and Clearwater Police responded to the scene.

Authorities said one vehicle involved in the crash had a single occupant, who was uninjured.

The other vehicle, which overturned, had four occupants.

Two men in that vehicle died at the scene, authorities said.

Another man in that car was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and a woman was hospitalized with possible internal injuries.

Tampa Police Traffic Homicide Detectives are investigating the crash.
