HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were killed early Thursday in a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in eastern Hillsborough County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 3 a.m. on northbound US 301 just south of McIntosh Road in Thonotosassa.
Troopers said the 32-year-old driver of an SUV crossed the center line and collided with a southbound pick-up truck. Minutes after that crash, a northbound semi crashed into the SUV, as well as a passerby who had stopped to render aid.
The woman driving the SUV died at the scene.
The man in the pick-up truck was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The 53-year-old man who stopped to help was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.
US 301 was reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
