Olancha Road is closing north of State Road 50 and U.S. 98 in Ridge Manor.
But ongoing road work in the area already has some business owners concerned.
Cherish Fields has been working to build up her business for years, but outside her Cherishing Beauty Salon, she has had some challenges.
“It’s clearly a disaster out here," she said. "The main confusion has been for my customers."
She is talking about a widening project that started in 2019 to help accommodate increased traffic in the area. Fields said the cones and dust have sometimes made it hard for her to grow her business.
“It’s definitely hindering the business as far as people being so focused on the construction,” she said. “And where the cones are and where they’re changing daily, I think it misses the signs that are out here.”
Starting this week, there’s an additional temporary closure on Olancha Road, which is right next to her salon.
Officials with the Florida Department of Transportation said that the closure is needed to allow workers to restructure the intersection.
Fields said she hopes when it’s all done, it will help. But she’s anxious for that day to come soon.
“The same week that we opened is actually whenever the construction happened,” she said. “So it’s definitely been a challenge. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it finish up quickly.”
FDOT says the widening project is expected to be done next summer.
