The "Sunpass Savings Program" will apply to Florida Department of Transportation-maintained toll roads, including I-4 Express lanes in Orange and Seminole counties, along with the Florida Turnpike.

Drivers who use those toll roads 40 times in a month will see a 20% credit to their account the next month. Eighty toll road usages will result in a 25% credit, DeSantis said.

The program will start Sept. 1 and will be in effect for six months, until the next legislative session, he said.

It will not apply to the Central Florida Expressway and Miami-Dade Expressway.

DeSantis, speaking at Florida's Turnpike Headquarters, said the program could benefit about 400,000 drivers.

"This is small but an important savings," he said, adding that it would provide at least some breathing room for residents amid inflation.

No action needs to be taken by SunPass account holders, DeSantis said.

"As long as your account is in good savings, you will get this savings passed along to you," he said.
