ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The end is near for Disney KiteTails, the live daytime show with character-shaped kites at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The show will have its last performances on Sept. 30, according to an update on the official Disney World website.

“Enjoy Disney KiteTails until its last offering on September 30, 2022,” read the notice on the website.

The show debuted in October at the start of Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. Performed on the Discovery River Lagoon, KiteTails feature large ballon-like kites that depict characters from “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book.” The kites are pulled around the amphitheater by jet skis.

In April, Disney announced that the show would be modified into a shorter length for more performances through the day. The performers inside the theater were also removed from the show.

Since its debut, KiteTails become known for the comical way the kites land in the stands.

Disney has not said what, if anything, will replace KiteTails.
