TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has received a one-game suspension after Sunday’s brawl during the New Orleans Saints game.
According to Bay News 9’s partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, the suspension came down midday Monday.
Evans and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore engaged in a benches-clearing brawl early in the fourth quarter, and Bucs quarterback Tom Brady and Lattimore shouted at one another after a play.
Evans ran in and knocked Lattimore to the ground.
I was just trying to have my teammate’s back,” Evans said after the game, which the Bucs rallied to win 20-10. “I seen (Lattimore) punch someone. I wasn’t going to let that happen. ... We know when you come to New Orleans, it gets spicy.”
It does not appear Lattimore will face suspension.
Tampa Bay (2-0) has its home opener Sunday at 4:25 p.m. against the Green Bay Packers (1-1).
