CINCINNATI — The warrant for Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon was dismissed Friday, but the related incident is still being investigated.
The warrant, for aggravated menacing, had been issued on Thursday for an alleged road-rage incident on Jan. 21.
At the time of the dismissal, Judge Curt Kissinger said that the charge "could possibly" be refiled.
The Cincinnati Police Department said the case has been reassigned.
"The Cincinnati Police Department is committed to providing fair and impartial police services to all," CPD's statement begins. "The Cincinnati Police Department has an obligation to fully investigate all reported offenses completely and without bias or pre-determined notions. When CPD received information supporting a charge of Aggravated Menacing involving Mr. Joe Mixon, it began investigating and gathering evidence. Understanding that this particular case possibly involved a "high-profile individual," supervision from CPD instructed the case investigator to submit the case for a cursory review before any possible charge was filed to ensure completeness of the investigation. That directive was not followed, and the case has now been reassigned.
"Today's dismissal of the criminal charge against Mr. Joe Mixon permits continued investigation into the allegation of an Aggravated Menacing incident. The evidence will guide CD's investigation and actions, and newly obtained evidence has since been recovered. Once all evidence is fully examined, criminal charges can be refiled at a later date."
Mixon, a second-round draft pick by the Bengals in 2017, just wrapped up his sixth season with the team.
