TAMPA, Fla. — Four townhomes are a complete loss and it badly damaged a fifth after a fire on Saturday night, according to Pasco County Fire Rescue. Officials said the call came in around 9:30 p.m. and it took crews around 90 minutes to control the fire.
No one was injured in the fire, according to officials. Crews continued to work throughout the night to make sure the fire was completely out and didn’t reignite. The Pasco Fire Rescue is now investigating what caused the fire.
“Once firefighters started getting in there and trying to get hoses ran, to get water to the fire they realized they had more fire than they thought they did,” said Corey Dierdorff with Pasco County Fire Rescue. “The fire continued to spread. These are all wood-framed structures behind us, so the fire spread pretty easily through it.”
Witnesses said it was a scary sight and one of the worst fires they’ve ever seen.
“It’s just sad to think though somebody lost all of their lively possessions,” said Shane Modugno, who lives nearby. “At least nobody got hurt. That’s the most important thing, but I can’t even imagine.”
Pasco Fire Rescue said because of the size of the fire, the state fire marshall’s office was called in to help. The fire department is also working with the residents affected to make sure they’re taken care of.
