ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Runners are making their final preparations before heading to the 6th annual Skyway 10K taking place on Sunday, March 12.
The 10K is a point-to-point course from Manatee County to Pinellas County with over 8,000 participants running 6.2 miles northbound over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. All the the proceeds go to the Armed Forces Families Foundation, which helps military families build a sense of community support and well-being while their loved ones are away.
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge's traffic patterns will be changing to accommodate the run.
The northbound span of the bridge will close at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning and will reopen at 11 a.m. "sharp," according to the 10K website. The southbound lanes will remain open throughout the entire race.
Parking will be available at the Tropicana Field free of cost, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of limited parking and traffic, carpooling or ride-sharing to Tropicana Field is encouraged.
After the run is completed, a second finish line will be located at Tropicana Field where racers can greet friends and family, receive their medals, and enjoy a Post-Race Expo.
