Driver Russell Michaels says one spot in particular causes a lot of problems: Getting onto I-75 from U.S. 301.

“Drivers tend to cut each other off,” he said. “There’s been repeated accidents from people trying to cut out of the line.”

He says this occurs on the parallel road that runs along I-75 from U.S. 301.

“Drivers get impatient on the hill and cut the people coming off of State Road 60," Michaels said. "I actually clocked it one time — it was like 23 minutes just to go 23 feet."

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, a project is currently underway to improve U.S. 301 near I-75.

Officials say that work includes widening the northbound on ramp from U.S. 301 to I-75, which should help with traffic congestion.

The project also includes removing and replacing the asphalt at U.S. 301 and Progress Boulevard/Bloomingdale Avenue and adding a sidewalk along U.S. 301. Officials say that work is set to finish later in the summer.
