UVALDE, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating after a video showing a trooper shoving the mother of a Uvalde mass shooting victim went viral.
It happened when the mother in the video, Ana Rodriguez, on Wednesday attempted to pick her son up from Flores Elementary School in Uvalde. Video shows the trooper shoving Rodriquez out the door of the school before threatening to arrest her.
The trooper eventually let her in.
Rodriguez was attempting to check her son out of school in order to attend a gun violence protest.
Her daughter, 10-year-old Maite Rodriguez, was among the 19 children shot and killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on May 24, 2022. Two teachers were killed as well.
State Sen. Roland Gutierrez, D-San Antonio, called for an investigation into the trooper’s actions in a tweet on Wednesday.
“I am demanding a full @TxDPS investigation of this incident, with bodycam footage to be released IMMEDIATELY. This is a DISGRACE and is NO way to treat a grieving family,” he wrote.
In the video, Ana Rodriguez approaches the school and bangs on a door several times, loudly.
“I have my ID and I’m gonna get my son out,” she says in the video.
The trooper then shoves Ana Rodriguez out the door as she struggles against him.
After arguing with a man who appears off camera, the trooper permits Ana Rodriguez to enter the school and pick her son up. The off-camera man appears to identify himself as Ana Rodriguez’s husband.
