BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Hernando County officials are meeting to decide what's next after a fire tore through the county's recycling center.

The recycling landfill in Brooksville was partially destroyed after a fire broke out early Saturday morning, officials with the county said on Monday.

On Tuesday, county commissioners are meeting to review future options.

Hernando County officials said residents can continue recycling at the curb, and recycling will still be picked up. If a resident is currently subscribed to curbside trash service through Republic Services, once per week curbside recycling is included in the service at no additional cost, officials added.

Officials said that Hernando County is using best efforts to take care of the recycling, and will let the public know when there is an update.

Firefighters had responded to the call on Saturday just before 6 a.m. from an employee at the Hernando County Landfill at 14450 Landfill Rd. Officials said crews found partial structural collapse of the building. The fire was was contained by Hernando County Fire Rescue crews.

Officials said crews worked for more than two hours to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is being handled by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
