TAMPA, Fla. — In an executive action, the Biden administration is expanding at-home care to all 172 Department of Veterans Affairs facilities across the nation by the end of fiscal year 2024.
In-home care can mean the world to some who have a hard time getting around and making to VA appointments.
Vietnam veteran Everett Huber lives in Indian Shores and is dealing with several health issues including PTSD, diabetes, and vertigo.
“I am rated at 80 percent disability and I'm trying to apply for 100 percent to raise my level of care," Huber said.
Huber says he has used at-home care from the VA in the past and greatly appreciated the convenience.
“Having them come out to the house was a lot of help," he said.
He isn’t just dealing with his own health issues. His wife is battling lung cancer and Huber says he has to help her get around. He says the VA home care option would take a lot of stress off of his back if he needed to use the service again.
The executive order will also add services for an additional 5,600 veterans at their homes.
