ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Dali Museum is unveiling a special exhibit that gives the public a glimpse into the artistic mind of Salvador Dali.

The exhibit is called “Where Ideas Come From” and it contains more than 100 drawings in pencil, ink and charcoal of what would later become masterpiece oil paintings like the Melting Clock.

Spectrum Bay News 9 was given an exclusive peek at this rate exhibit.

“Unlike our oil paintings which are essentially the finished contemplated, reflected upon work over a long period of time, these drawings are where those ideas started to come from,” said museum Director of Education Peter Tush.

“So you see sometimes Dali experimenting, sometimes perfecting his craft. Sometimes really working up an idea that he will later change,” Tush continued.

Many of the etchings have been stored in the museum vault for decades and may not be on display again for another 30 years.

The exhibit opens on Saturday and runs through October.
