TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is holding a registration event this week for its Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program in Tampa.
D-SNAP is for those Hillsborough County residents who were financially impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton that aren’t recipients of the SNAP program.
Because of the popularity of the event, DCF is asking anyone attending the event to pre-register at its website.
Bridget Royster is assistant secretary for the office of Economic Sustainability for DCF, and says to qualify for D-SNAP benefits, you must meet certain criteria and prove your storm-related losses.
“You had to have been living in Hillsborough County at the time of hurricane Helene or Milton and not currently receiving SNAP assistance through the regular program,” said Royster. “You have to meet financial eligibility requirements and have had to have had a disaster-related loss that could have been loss of food, loss of income during the storm or other disaster-related expenses.”
The D-SNAP registration event runs through Thursday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
