CLEARWATER, Fla. — Kids who are interested in learning about what it takes to be a lifeguard will be able to do so at Clearwater Fire & Rescue's Lifeguard Summer Camp this week.

Each day, campers will learn about safety issues on the beach and in the water. They will also participate in physical fitness and mock rescues to learn more about the job.

All participants will be receiving first aid lessons, including CPR certification and will learn basic lifeguard rescue skills such as swimming, paddle board and jet ski rescues.

According to the Clearwater Fire & Rescue department, children must be in good physical condition to participate in this program and successfully complete a tryout. Tryouts consist of an unassisted, 100-yard swim, treading water for 5 minutes and a 10-yard underwater swim.
