CLEARWATER, Fla. — Officials say that alcohol appears to be a factor in a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured one person on Wednesday morning.
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to the crash shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 at Sunset Point Road, where authorities say a 2016 Honda Pilot crashed into the divider and burst into flames.
The 24-year-old driver was ejected from the car, and was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with possible life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 19 were shut down for about three hours as the investigation was conducted, deputies say.
