TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation has some big road closures in Hillsborough County this week.

What You Need To Know

  • I-275 south is closing Thursday from 1-5 a.m.

  • The closure is southbound between Hillsborough Avenue and MLK Boulevard

  • State Road 60 is closed this week for rail crossing repair work between State Road 39 and County Line Road

That includes part of I-275 in Tampa, which is closing overnight.

I-275 southbound will be closed to all traffic between Hillsborough Avenue and MLK Jr. Boulevard Thursday from 1-5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured onto Nebraska Avenue.

Officials with the Florida Department of Transportation are asking drivers to plan accordingly and to expect some delays.

Construction is part of the I-275 capacity improvement project. An additional lane is being added in both directions from I-4 to north of Hillsborough Avenue.

There is also another big ongoing project in Hillsborough this week: State Road 60 is closed between State Road 39 (James L. Redman Parkway) and County Line Road.

This is for repair work on the CSX rail crossing. The road closed on Monday to all traffic. FDOT says the closure was expected to last for approximately seven days.

Traffic is being detoured using SR 39, Alexander Street, Park Road, U.S. 92 and County Line Road. Local traffic to homes and businesses is allowed through. FDOT says drivers should expect some added traffic on those roads during the closure.
