RIVERVIEW, Fla. — Your morning commute may become a bit easier if you drive through southern Hillsborough County. A new ramp to get on I-75 at Big Bend Road in Riverview is now open.

What You Need To Know

  • FDOT opened a new ramp to get on to I-75 northbound at Big Bend Road in Riverview

  • Drivers no longer have to make a left-hand turn to get onto the interstate

  • The new ramp is part of a series of construction projects on the interchange

  • Project leaders expect all the improvements to be done by Summer 2025

Drivers going westbound on Big Bend Road can now get on northbound I-75 by simply veering right onto an entrance ramp, rather than having to make a left-hand turn to get on the highway.

Crews began working on this back in December 2021. The Florida Department of Transportation has been working on multiple construction projects in the area to help alleviate congestion. Project leaders with FDOT said the improvements are necessary to help keep up with the rapid growth in the south county area.

People who regularly get on I-75 at Big Bend Road said they’re already seeing an improvement with the new entrance.

“I’m excited about it,” said Cary Watts from Gibsonton. “It’s going to free up a lot of traffic coming from the opposite side, so it’s perfect going to work.”

The new entrance ramp is a small portion of the work being done on the interchange. FDOT expects construction to continue until summer 2025.
