TAMPA, Fla. — Firefighters responded to a large house fire in Tampa Wednesday morning.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the fire broke out at a home near Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and North Boulevard around 6 a.m.

Initial calls indicated residents were trapped in the home, officials said. 

When crews arrived, the residents had made it out of the house. The back part of the house was showing smoke and flames as firefighters arrived. 

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly after arrival. The occupants were treated at the scene for mild smoke inhalation, officials said.

The response to the fire closed MLK in both directions near North Boulevard. MLK reopened to traffic at 8:30 a.m.

Officials said an investigation into the fire will be ongoing.
