HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County Deputy Carlos Brito is recovering at the hospital with serious leg injuries after a suspect drove his car into him and another deputy in Brandon on Thursday.

On social media on Sunday, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said Brito “is in great spirits, and the medical staff at TGH is doing everything possible to set him up for a full recovery.”

The sheriff shared the following photos of Brito’s recovery:

Brito and his colleague, Deputy Manny Santos, came under attack Thursday when they were hit by a car while responding to a call of a mentally unstable person.

Santos said on Saturday that his leg was shattered.

However, he is out of the hospital.

Their suspected attacker, Ralph Bouzy, was arrested and taken to a mental facility, and is now in jail.
