ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Shore Acres residents experienced a light show that could rival some holiday decorations during heavy rains over the weekend.

  • Residents in Shore Acres were witnesses to a light show, sparked by a power outage

  • As of Sunday night, most power outages have been resolved according to Duke Energy

It was almost like a scene out of a movie, a utility pole catching fire and collapsing onto a power line.

Christopher Boyd happened to capture the exact moment he and other homeowners in Shore Acres lost power. An experience, he says, that was just unbelievable.

“We just watched the whole thing fall. It was crazy,” he said.

“I felt it in my heart,” said Boyd. “That pole fell and just a blue streak of fire went down the whole street. It was nuts and crazy. Coolest and craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life.”

Boyd says he has been living in the area for a little more than a year. Within that time, he says he’s had to sandbag his property three times. This time, his home remains mostly untouched.

“I need some new Christmas decorations but other than that, we’re alright,” he said.

In his backyard, flood water remains. With furniture within their depths.

“We were kind of laughing about it this morning when the streets were flooding, kind of just looking at each other,” said Boyd. “But it’s just great how the neighborhood comes together.”

Even in a time of distress, neighbors came together for a community storm party. With plenty of food and football to go around. Showing just a taste of Shore Acres’ resilience against the storm.

“You know, we’ll just rebuild and keep going. Same thing we’ve always done,” said Boyd.

Resilience that Boyd will carry with him into the next storm and beyond.
