Brito and Deputy Manuel Santos were severely injured when the sheriff says a man intentionally drove his car into the deputies last month.
Doctors initially thought they’d have to amputate Cpl. Brito’s leg, but they were able to salvage it, according to Sheriff Chad Chronister.
Brito says he hopes to be back on the job in six months, but is all dependent on how his leg recovers.
“I’m very honest, I want to. However, there’s no telling if I’ll have 10 percent mobility with my leg or 100. There’s no telling right now,” he said.
Brito also thanked the deputies who put a tourniquet on his leg, the hospital staff and community.
