Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has been summoned by police to appear for questioning Thursday morning as he remains under investigation by police and Major League Baaseball for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor.
According to a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, ESPN's Jeff Passan said Franco is supposed to appear for questioning at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
A newspaper in the Dominican Republic and our partners at the Tampa Bay Times have reported that Santo Domingo authorities searched two homes Tuesday looking for Franco but didn't find him.
Franco returned to the Dominican Republic earlier this month.
The report is the latest in a four-month investigation by Dominican authorities and Major League Baseball.
Franco hit .281 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs and made the American League All-Star team in 2023, his third year in the majors. But he was removed from the lineup on Aug. 12 and did not play again after news broke of the investigation.
He is under an 11-year, $182 million contract with the Rays, but his playing career has been left in limbo.
Spring Training starts in less than two months, with position players like Franco expected to report Feb. 18.
