BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Progress is being made on the new Cabot Citrus Farms in Hernando County. A once-prominent golf course is now being brought back to life, thanks to some new investment.

What You Need To Know

  • Cabot Citrus Farms will soon be opening in Hernando County, offering guests more than just 18 holes of golf

  • Bought in December 2021, the property is 1,200 acres of land with 600 acres sitting undeveloped

  • The new development sits on the old site of the former 'World Woods Golf Club'

  • Cabot plans to have nature trails and a sporting club, offering attractions that are designed to be inclusive for everyone

The development plans to open later this year — offering more than just golf.

“(We’re) building our first project in the U.S.,” said Daniel Knight, managing director at Cabot Citrus Farms. “Really, a world-class destination, golf resorting community called Cabot Citrus Farms.”

Knight and his staff have been busy revitalizing what was the former ‘World Woods Golf Club.’

Cabot bought the property in December 2021. Acquiring 1,200 acres total with 600 acres sitting undeveloped. The plan is to have nature trails and a sporting club with clay shooting, archery and more. Plans that are inclusive for everyone.

“The vision here is an 18-hole putting course that’s great for kids, families or folks looking to settle a bet after the round and keep playing golf after the sun has set,” said Knight.

And if you thought golf was it, think again. 36 cottages will be ready by late February/early March. Offering guests the chance to relax and stay on the property.

It will also feature a pro shop — offering all sorts of sporting equipment. Knight says they have about 100 team members on-staff right now. With 500 full-time team members expected once opened.

“The ability to not only attract guests to come and play golf here, but to stay on property and experience everything Hernando County, Citrus County and the Nature Coast have to offer is really part of our mission and vision here,” said Knight.

A vision to bring guests to this place of wonder and natural beauty.

“Development breeds more development,” said Knight. “We’re excited about seeing not only the growth here thru our investment at Citrus Farms but also the downstream effects that we’ve seen projects can have on local areas. Fast forward ten years how we can continue to support the county and how this area continues to grow.”

Showing that Hernando County is not only a place to play but also a place to stay.

Cabot Citrus farms will be hosting a soft opening later this month. They plan to open in early spring.
