HUDSON, Fla. — Officials with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office say deputies shot a woman Thursday afternoon after she allegedly confronted them with a knife.

According to information from the Sheriff's Office, the woman, who was identified as Isabella North, 29, flagged down a passerby in the area of Denton Avenue and Dane Lane at about 3:30 p.m.

North reportedly "told the passerby she needed help and to call emergency services," a PCSO statement said.

"After speaking with call takers, the passerby handed the phone to North and expressed to call takers that she 'felt like she was going to kill someone,'" the statement continued.

When deputies arrived at the scene and tried to talk with North, they said she would not respond to them and "quickly withdrew a 12-inch-long knife and assumed a fighting stance at deputies."

Deputies reported that they continued to try and speak with North and de-escalate the situation, up until the point that she allegedly moved quickly toward them with the knife raised.

"The two deputies then fired one shot each, striking North," the PCSO statement said. "This entire incident occurred within 30 seconds of deputies arriving on scene."

North was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting and the deputies were placed on administrative leave, per Sheriff's Office protocol.
