TAMPA, Fla. — The My Safe Florida Home Program is meant to help Floridians harden their homes with up to $10,000 in grant money from the state.
On July 1, the application portal is set to reopen thanks to an additional $200 million in funding.
If you already started the application process, check your email. Enrollees should be receiving correspondence advising them to log back into their portals to answer additional questions that have to do with new requirements that give priority to low-income seniors.
Cheri Kepple is one of those seniors who received grant money to repair her roof through the last round of funding. She calls the repairs to her home life changing.
“Now I can put food on my table and feel comfortable and safe,” Kepple said.
According to the Florida Department of Financial Services, the new influx of funding is enough to cover about 20,000 more grants. However, the department said there is an estimated 67,000 people who have already made it past the initial home inspection in the application process. More applicants expected to join those once the portal reopens.
