Penny Dodd said she's been organizing events like this since 2019.

Sunday's rally was already planned, but after the shooting, Dodd said the rally takes on a new meaning after the former president was nearly killed.

"It would have totally torn and broken my heart," she said.

The shooting left one person dead, Corey Comperatore, and two people injured.

Setting up for the rally, Dodd said the shock of Trump sharing he was grazed by a bullet still lingers in her mind.

Surrounded by others who support the former president like she does, Dodd is hopeful this incident will lead to a time that can unite the country.

"I really think what happened to President Trump is going to bring a lot more people together and bring a lot more people together in prayer," she said.
