Officials with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office say they have arrested Marcus Jenkins and Tristin Wright in connection with the case.

The pair faces several charges, including attempted murder, robbery and aggravated battery.

Kim Chambliss said it had been a while since she and her fiancée, Val DeLaCruz, had enjoyed a date night, so they planned an evening at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa.

“We felt safe and secure in the moment, enjoying each other’s company,” Chambliss said.

Along with spending quality time together, they say the highlight of the evening was winning a $3,000 jackpot.

They cashed out and went home to Riverview, having no idea they were being followed.

“Yeah, we could’ve been more vigilant, but we didn’t even think about it at that moment,” Chambliss said.

Security camera footage captured what happened as the couple arrived home. Two men, who could be seen in the video wearing masks, approached the couple and demanded their money. One fired multiple shots at DeLaCruz, who was hit in both legs.

“We were just caught off guard, and it’s been a totally traumatic experience,” said Chambliss.

She said they are taking it one day at a time as they recover.

“Trying to heal and get through this, not only physically but mentally and emotionally,” Chambliss said.

Chambliss said DeLaCruz had surgery just a week ago and is expected to walk again after six months of therapy.
