DUNEDIN, Fla. — Democrat Whitney Fox bested a quartet of other candidates in the Tuesday primary for Congressional District 13.

With the win, Fox will take on incumbent Republican Anna Paulina Luna in November.

With 82 percent of precincts reporting, Fox defeated Liz Dahan, Mark Weinkrantz, Sabrina Bousbar and John W. Liccione. She garnered 58 percent of the votes, and the race was called shortly before 7:45 p.m.

Fox is a former communications director for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and is a first-time political candidate.

She raised more campaign funds than her opponents combined.

“We’re feeling really positive. We’ve gotten some great response from the voters," she said earlier Tuesday. "Especially out here at the polls. We’ve been knocking on doors for a little while now, and the voters are really excited to have somebody who’s actually going to hear their concerns and issues and go up to D.C. and fight for them.”

The district, which represents Largo, Clearwater, and Palm Harbor, is considered a GOP leaning seat after Gov. Ron DeSantis proposed and signed off on a new redistricting map two years ago.
