SARASOTA, Fla. — Some Florida counties had difficulty Tuesday reporting primary election results to the public because of an unspecified glitch involving a vendor, state officials said Wednesday.

Secretary of State Cord Byrd said at a news conference that counties using the vendor VR Systems reported the issue, which included websites timing out.

“This was an issue with their public-facing websites. It had nothing to do with the data or the votes being transmitted to the Department of State,” Byrd said.

Meanwhile, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer, said in a statement that the unknown problem caused “intermittent down time and slowness” on its websites but there was no interference with tabulation of votes.

“The public website is completely separate from the vote tabulation system, voter registration system or election night results reporting website,” according to the statement.

At a news conference in Sarasota on Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he was not aware of any software glitches on supervisor of elections websites.

“I wasn’t necessarily aware of that,” he said. “We’ve done very well the last couple of elections. I don’t know if it was a website issue or whatever. We have 67 counties, so some may have been different.

“One of the things Florida stands apart from the rest of this country is we actually have (election) results usually by 9 p.m. on election night. That’s good. That’s confidence-inspiring. There’s not a lot of time for tom-foolery.

“You know how many people voted, you produce the results. Everyone moves on and you accept the outcome. But Cord will look at that. We want to make sure for the general election it’s good.”

The governor also commented on the expansion of Hope Florida to help serve people recovering from disasters in the state, most recently Hurricane Debby.

“The state of Florida leads the nation in storm preparation and disaster response,” DeSantis said. “The launch of Activate Hope through Hope Florida and the Florida Division of Emergency Management will enable us to strengthen our recovery efforts and rebuild stronger communities by utilizing the existing Hope Florida network to help those impacted by disasters find the help they need.”

DeSantis also touched on school board races statewide including in the Bay area where several candidates he backed performed poorly.

“So on the school board we want to support the school board candidates in whatever capacity that we can that put students first,” DeSantis said, adding the emphasis should be on what’s best for students. “Respect the rights of parents, and that believe schools should educate and not indoctrinate and that really shouldn't be debatable but that's where we are now because that's where people want to take education."
