TOWN' N COUNTRY, Fla. – Public works crews worked around the clock Wednesday night and Thursday morning to contain damage from heavy rainfall that impacted the Town ’N Country neighborhood in western Hillsborough County.
The rain and storms were part of an overall system that caused flooding in many areas.
County officials said the Town 'N Country area received 3.89 inches of rain in less than an hour on Wednesday night after getting 3.4 inches the night before.
The volume of rain overwhelmed canals in Town ’N Country, and it took pump operators working overnight moving water out of the canals to prevent a major flooding event.
Stormwater teams worked on-site at 15 pumps to ensure the pumps continued working so that the streets were clear by 9 a.m. Thursday.
County staff has been working to continue to lower floodwaters as quickly as possible during the day Thursday.
All pumps throughout the area will continue operation until the water reaches a level where teams can safely evaluate storm drains and clear any obstructions.
