The school serves students with autism and other related disabilities, focusing on individualized instruction.

“We develop learning plans and goals based on their individual style of learning,” said Jenn Siffermann, Vice President of Programs at Easterseals.

Currently open to kindergarten through second grade, Greyson Leonard is part of the inaugural class. The six-year-old was born with coffin-siris syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.

“With the syndrome, he also does have intellectual disability, and we just got the diagnosis of autism,” said Greyson’s mother, Ashley Leonard, who describes his condition as medically complex. “Greyson really needs to focus on life skills, skills like learning how to walk, learning how to communicate, because he is nonverbal."

Students learn under the instruction of play-based lessons. Easterseals prides itself on providing an inclusive and supportive space for academic and social growth.

“We very much believe on learning through hands-on experiences and meeting children where they’re at developmentally,” said Siffermann.

The collaborative approach also provides programs to Hillsborough County families outside the classroom.

Easterseals offers:

“We’re looking forward to seeing what this entire school year brings for us, absolutely,” said Ashley, of the new year bringing limitless possibilities.

The school will soon expand to serve children six weeks old through pre-kindergarten.
