TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa city employees have been canvasing hurricane-damaged neighborhoods to find out who may benefit from some extra cleaning supplies and debris pickup — all culminating in volunteers bringing the supplies on Saturday.
"The supplies they’re going to need are good cleaning supplies, hygiene items," said Chris Freeman, a Tampa Code Enforcement Officer. "Because most of what they have in these houses are ruined and within one or two days of the mold setting in.”
Vanessa Nettingham, the Community Engagement Coordinator for the city of Tampa, said without the donations they’ve gotten from around the country, something like this would never be able to happen.
“We’re doing everything we can on our side for the city behind the scenes to help our community get back on its feet. It’s not just something that we’re going to look at and pass over because at the end of the day, we’re all community together,” she said.
She estimates they have around 200 buckets full of supplies to take to affected homes.
