TAMPA, Fla. — After a damaging year from the back-to-back hurricanes, the Old Hyde Park Home Tour is back on this weekend in time for the holiday season.
The proceeds from the annual holiday walking tour, which includes an inside look at some of Hyde Park’s most historic homes, will go towards hurricane restoration efforts in the neighborhood.
During the storms, many of the areas distinctive old trees were damaged as well as historic signage among other things.
Anne Faber and her family are taking part in the Old Hyde Park Home Tour for the first time this year. Their historic home, which features a vernacular style of architecture, was built in 1910. The Faber’s purchased the home in 2016 and put nearly a year of work into restoring and preserving many of the unique aspects that make it so historic.
“When you take on a home like this it’s about restoring it and handing it down to future generations,” Faber said. “This house has been here a lot longer than we have and will be here.”
The Faber’s historic home features original windows and crown molding that can been seen throughout the foyer, dining rooms, and grand living room.
Another featured home this year is the ‘Lickerman House’ built in 1912 by James and Dora Bryan. It is a restored classic Victorian style home with Bungalow Craftsman features.
“We were so happy to be able to do this tour especially this year after the hurricanes and the damage the city saw,” Faber said. ‘It’s great to be able to come together in a festive way and raise money for that.”
This year, five homes will be available to explore inside and dozens more along the streets are adorned with elaborate holiday decorations. Each street was assigned a theme, so those walking through will see tributes to that festive theme along the houses.
The walking tour kicks off Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m. in Hyde Park at 726 S.Oregon.
