  • City Commission is looking to not only repair but to update the marina

City leaders say it could cost more than $10 million for repairs but are now considering updating the marina.

Most of the marina remains fenced off awaiting repairs, including a replacement for a collapsed seawall.

The marina is a huge draw for locals and tourists.

Caleb Hamilton is an assistant general manager for Bon Appetite, a restaurant next to the marina, and says the marina helps bring customers to the restaurant.

“It brought opportunity for our business, brought our opportunity to Dunedin to grow, and it’s a shame,” Hamilton said of the storm damage.

Commissioners and city officials recently discussed the future of the marina. Commissioner Robert Walker says it’s important to make repairs as soon as possible.

“I think collectively as a community we need to embrace the fact that we have an opportunity to make the gem of our town what it needs to be,” Walker said.

Boats are still being removed from the marina in preparation for repairs. City leaders January 21 will discuss a future design.
