MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s finally New Year’s Eve, and for many, that means one thing — fireworks.

There are only three days of the year when it is legal to use personal fireworks in Florida: the 4th of July, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Local counties can still impose their own restrictions.

Still, for those who sell fireworks, this time of year means business is booming.

Karen Dakin, a Myakka City resident, says she found some great deals and is ready for the show.

“This ‘Dark Night’ is supposed to be the best rapid repeater. And the other two were $0.99, so I got three of them,” she said.

Roberto Lopez, who lives in Lakewood Ranch, says he was stocking up to bring in the new year with a bang.

The veteran said he is excited for the fireworks.

“I have a big assortment — shells in the sky, some crackling — to bring in the new year,” he said.

As people stock up on fireworks, stores like Sky King Fireworks are staying busy.

Michael Goodburn, the floor manager there, says Tuesday was one of the busiest days they’ve had in a while.

To keep everything organized, he says the staff worked long shifts to make sure customers get all the supplies they need.

“We’ve hit our numbers every day or gone over, and that’s all we can expect every season,” he said.

Bryce Hutchinson, a Bradenton resident, says after a tough year, he is ready to ring in 2025 with fireworks.

“Anything can happen in between the years — you just don’t know what to expect. So, with these fireworks, im going to have a good time tonight," he said.

Ready to light up the sky and ring in 2025 in style.
