  • Kyshia Brassington, the RNC committeewoman for North Carolina, went to Trump's first inauguration and is returning for the second this year

  • Brassington is excited to be part of history

Kyshia Brassington, the RNC committeewoman for North Carolina, is one of them.

“I’m so excited to go to Washington, D.C. So excited to celebrate for everyone,” Brassington said.

Brassington was raised in a political household but became politically active in 2015 during the presidential race.

“I didn’t think Hillary Clinton was the right president at that time. Donald Trump offered something new and something different,” Brassington said.

Brassington has attended state conventions and has been a delegate four times.

She has saved many of the pictures of her political chapter, including a photo with Trump when he visited Charlotte.

“When I see them, it makes me happy. It gives me purpose. This is what we're working for. And then to see success, especially after the 2020 cycle, to see 2024 be so successful,” Brassington said.

Brassington attended Trump’s first inauguration, and Monday she’ll be in Washington, D.C., when Trump takes the oath of office for a second time.

“The energy is hopefulness. It's excitement. It's feeling like you're part of something bigger than yourself, and you really are. It is not just about a party system. It's about the American system,” Brassington said.

According to the U.S. Capitol Police, nearly a quarter million ticketed guests are expected at the inauguration in addition to those participating in the downtown area.

Brassington said when she’s shared her plans with others, safety keeps coming up.

“The first thing that I hear is 'be safe. Be aware of your surroundings.' But I have to tell you, I really haven't been concerned. I think that D.C. is going to be the safest place in the world,” Brassington said.

Brassington expects to see Trump and his family at events outside the inauguration. She is excited to be part of the pomp and circumstance around inaugurations, such as the balls and parade.

She also looks forward to see the executive orders Trump signs. She said border security, drilling, and safety and security issues are included in those.

Brassington is also hopeful for the next four years.

“We got to work together to move forward. And I think Trump knows that. I'm really looking forward to seeing that happen. We need to get back to statesmanship and people working together,” Brassington said.

Brassington is already in D.C., where she’ll attend events as a member of the RNC.
