TAMPA, Fla. — President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order addressing vitro fertilization.

The order aims to develop policies to expand access to IVF and improve its affordability.

  • The executive order addresses accessibility and affordability

  • The executive order said those policy recommendations should come out in the next 90 days

Dr. Daniel Duffy, a reproductive endocrinologist at Brown Fertility in Tampa, said this is something he has been waiting for years to see.

"Finally," he said. "Literally, finally. We finally got enough ears to hear."

Through IVF, Duffy has assisted those struggling to conceive and start the families they've always wanted.

He said he wasn't sure what kind of support IVF would have under Trump’s administration.

The executive order may not have been one he was expecting, but seeing support for the industry means a lot to him.

"IVF used to be something where we would do it at the end of all these other treatments," he said. "But in fact, sometimes it's the very best first treatment for you right now, and it's been shown that way over and over."

According to the White House, "The order directs policy recommendations to protect IVF access and aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments."

It also says: "Priority will also be placed on addressing any current policies, including those that require legislation, that exacerbate the cost of IVF treatments."

There are still questions about what directives come out from this executive order, but the backing from the president has Duffy believing the future is bright.

"How that's going to be done," he said. "We're still waiting for the fallout, but it needs to be equitable and as inclusive as possible for all couples."

The executive order said those policy recommendations should come out in the next 90 days.
