TAMPA, Fla. — Ndamukong Suh has finally arrived.

The five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro flew into Tampa to take his team physical and sign his one-year, $9.25 million deal.

As he takes his place in this organization, Suh is already dealing with talk of him replacing Gerald McCoy. But Suh doesn’t believe that is the case.

“I am definitely not taking Gerald’s spot,” said Suh. “Gerald set a stone at this franchise for many, many years - very successful. I am not here to replace him, I am kind of here to make my own path alongside this team and be a shining emblem of some sort, to get a winning, successful situation.”

Suh understands what it means to come to a team that has not been to the playoffs since 2007. He says he wants to help new head coach Bruce Arians lead this franchise in the right direction with a hungry defense under coordinator Todd Bowles.

“I have had conversations with (Bowles) the last couple of years, especially last year when he was with the Jets and I considered going there,” said Suh. “Just the way he thinks, the way he looks at things, and the way he wants to attack. Coach Arians (wants to) attack and be very aggressive and play up the field.”

“I like the way he plays football,” said Arians. “I like that. I’m looking really forward to getting him in the mix and getting to know the calls and everything.”

Suh is coming off a Super Bowl appearance with the Los Angeles Rams. He hopes his football experiences will help when it comes to guiding a young Bucs defense into 2019.

“I’ve been pretty much through the gambit,” said Suh. “So, to be able to bring that experience and be able to bring some different views on things, but at the same time understand that we all need to have the same collective vision and that is winning.”

Suh will be ready for Bucs mandatory minicamp starting Tuesday. The only mystery left is what number he will choose.

“Hopefully (I wear) 93,” said Suh.

The number worn by now-former Buc Gerald McCoy.
