LAKELAND, FL - Jaylon Glover was born to play football. It’s the stage where he’s most comfortable.
But on this particular day, Jaylon is on a different stage - at his church in Lakeland. He’s preparing to announce where he’ll play in college.
“Man, I’m a little nervous,” said the four-star running back from Lake Gibson. He will tell friends and family that he’s taking his talents to Utah. It’s a choice that came after much thought and prayer. That’s why Jaylon chose to do this at his church – because faith is one of the key pillars in his life.
“God gave me these talents,” said Glover, who is the top running back in the Bay Area for 2022. “God gave me the ability to do a lot of these things. I feel like it was only right to come to the church and come into His house.”
Helping Jaylon ahead of the ceremony is his pastor Caleb Thomas.
“He’s been at our church this whole time through,” said Thomas of Free Life Chapel. “And so it was just fitting that when he wanted to commit he goes ‘yo, pastor C, can I use the church to commit’ and I was like ‘of course you can!’”
Jaylon’s ceremony begins with a prayer. Then comes the opportunity for Jaylon to recognize the MVP of his family – his mother, Wendy.
“She’s always going to be in my corner. Just giving her those roses, it’s the least I can do and my mom is going to have the world,” said Glover.
Next is a message from Jaylon’s father, Stanley.
“Hold your head up high and meet the challenge,” said Glover in a prepared video presentation. “All that preparation and coaching and guiding him, has gotten us to this point.”
“He put the football in my hands for the first time,” said Glover. “I always want to make him proud because he’s my hero. He’s my figure and I’ll follow in his footsteps.”
TRACK: The moment finally arrives for Jaylon to make his decision. The church goes dark and a video reveals his choice of Utah. The night ends with a crowded stage filled with love and happiness. For Jaylon Glover, the most important decision of his young life is made special because of the two things he holds dear to his heart: Family and faith.
“I’m going to remember this day forever, man,” said Glover. “August 6th. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
