With Major League Baseball's trade deadline approaching on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays acquired some pieces to position themselves for a postseason run, while also looking ahead to the future.

In a three-team trade with Houston and Baltimore, the Rays traded for outfielder Jose Siri from the Astros.

The 27-year-old Siri made his big league debut last year. He hit .178 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 48 games with Houston this season.

In exchange, the Rays sent minor league pitchers Seth Johnson to Baltimore and Jayden Murray to Houston.

In a corresponding move, Tampa Bay designated outfielder and fan favorite Brett Phillips for assignment.

The Seminole High School alum is best known for his walk-off hit in Game 4 of the 2020 World Series vs. the Dodgers. Phillips spent parts of the last three seasons playing for his hometown team, but this season he's hitting just .147 with 14 RBI in 75 games.

The Rays also acquired RHP Garrett Cleavinger from the Dodgers on Monday, in exchange for minor league outfielder German Tapia. Cleavenger will report to Triple-A Durham.
