Jesuit Sophomore Patrick Wiley knows how to stand out on the soccer field.

"The first thing you notice about him, obviously, is his physicality and he’s a big kid," says Jesuit Boys Soccer Coach Eric Sims.

"Extremely fast, he has everything you want in an athlete from a physical standpoint."

Wiley’s speed was on full display in the Class 5A Region Semifinal.

Less than a minute into the game, he put the Tigers on the board, setting the tone for the rest of the night.

"When the game starts and you score 10 seconds into the game, it definitely boosts your confidence throughout the game," says Wiley.

"So, I  think I was going off of that, all of the adrenaline, it was just a good game for me."

Wiley scored three goals for Jesuit, sealing their trip to the Class 5A Regional Final.

Coach Sims says Wiley has an ability to perform under pressure. Something that’s helped propel the Tigers this season.

"When you get the chances in the playoffs, nerves are there and some kids are able to deal with it and some aren’t. He was able to step up. He buried three huge goals for us."

For Wiley it’s all in the preparation.

He’s played since he was three years old, dedicating countless hours to the sport.

"He just comes ready to compete every day," say Sims. "And that’s what you need out of a player, and we expect great things from him."

Although he’s only a sophomore, he’s grown into a larger leadership role.

"This year, I think he’s learned from the older players here on how to lead, and I think he’s embraced his role," says Sims.

"He’s come into his own as a player over the course of the season and he’s putting it all together at the right time."
