TAMPA — On Saturday, a new era of Bulls football begins when USF Steps on to the field at Western Kentucky under the leadership of first year head coach Alex Golesh
"I’ve really just tried to take this thing one day at a time, said the Bulls new head coach on Tuesday before his first game, I think it will be a cool day for probably my family, my friends, people that are going to be there".
Preparing a team for the first game of the season, the same week a Hurricane makes landfall in your state, not an ideal situation, especially if that game is your first as a college head coach, but for Alex Golesh he’s using it as an advantage.
The Bulls haven’t won a season opener in three years and it’s been even longer since the team opened on the road with one, but after just four wins in the last three years, the players know how big a win on Saturday would mean for this program.
"I don’t think we’ve started off with a win in a while in the first game, says Gaither High grad Donovan Jennings, the Bulls left tackle, and I just think that would mean just so much to me because that just shows that all our hard work and all our dedication is finally paying off".
When the Bulls kickoff at Western Kentucky at 3:30pm, Alex Golesh will not be alone as far as rookie head coaches are concerned, Golesh will be one of eleven first time head coaches at the FBS level.
For Golesh, his entire coaching career has led him to this moment, a chance to lead his own group and begin his own legacy at USF.
