Have you ever wanted to create your very own hurricane at home? Well, we have a quick and easy experiment you can try with your kids. This experiment will not only explain the science behind hurricanes, but it will also help show how hurricanes form and take their shape.

Here's what you need:

  • Large mixing bowl filled with water
  • Spoon or something to stir the water with
  • Food coloring (Any color will help you visualize when you pour it in how hurricanes take on their shape and their form.)

So, to start the experiment, take your spoon and stir the water around counterclockwise in the mixing bowl. Then, put a couple of drops in the center, and just like you see in the video above, you will see how a hurricane takes its shape and spins faster in the center. You will also be able to see the outer feeder bands that we see on radar.
