EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — A brush fire in San Diego County remained at 6,625 acres with containment growing to 96% by Wednesday night, according to Cal Fire.

The fire, dubbed the Border 2 Fire, was first reported Thursday afternoon near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Recent significant rain showers led to a reduction of fire activity, according to Cal Fire. "With the fire area receiving nearly an inch of rain the the last 36 hours and favorable humidity there is now significantly reduced fire activity," the agency stated on its website. "Ground crews will continue constructing fire lines in remote, steep areas, mopping up hotspots and patrolling existing lines."

As of Wednesday morning, 1,510 personnel were assigned to the fire, according to Cal Fire

Evacuations

On Sunday afternoon, CHP of El Cajon stated on social media that State Route 94 was reopened and the evacuation orders for the Dulzura and Honey Springs communities have been lifted, and that they will be repopulated.

Evacuation warnings were lifted for the following zones:

  • 2307
  • 2391
  • 2393
  • 2467
  • 2546
  • 2605
